Vazhapoo vada is very tasty and crispy delicacy. It is rich in fibre,VitA,vitB,Vit E Iron. And very good for uterus. This is also diabetic friendly food.
Ingredients:
Banana flower chopped….1 cup
Bengal gram….250gms
Red chillies…6 to 8 nos
Garlic….8 pods
Hinge 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves chopped…1 tbs
Fennel seeds….1 tbs
Salt as required.
Oil for frying.
Grind all these coarsely .
Clean banana flower.Remove brown color petals.From small flower bunch remove plastic like object then remove the head like portion too.Now put in chopper or put in pulse mode in mixi jar.
Rinse the Bengal gram dhal and soak with redchillies,garlic pods and drain the water.Grind it if needed add1 or 2 tbs of water.
Method
Now to the coarsely grinded batter add chopped onions, coriander leaves,curry leaves, salt and hinge.
Mix well.
In a kadai add oil and heat it.
When hot add a small bit of batter into oil. It should rise gradually. This is right.Fry vadas till golden brown and flip the other side and fry till golden brown.
Take a small portion and make it as a ball. Then press as vadas.
It will be crispy and very tasty. Can serve with chutney or sauce.

Now the recipe for thayir vada. Soak the vadas in warm water for15 to 20 minutes .Then press the vada between your palms to remove water.After removing water keep aside
.INGREDIENTS:
Curd……2 cups
Carrot grated few tablespoon
Coriander chopped few tablespoon.
For grinding:
Coconut scrapings…..1/4 cup
Green chilly……1
Water
Grind all these ingredients into a paste.Whisk the curd a little and add the grounded paste to it.Add salt as per your taste.
Now arrange the vada in a platter.
Add the prepared curd over the vada.Vadas should soak for mini 1/2 an hour to 3 to 4 hrs .Cover it and refrigerate.Finally garnish with grated carrot and chopped coriander leaves.
Serve vadai with little curd. I haven’t added any seasoning in but can add seasoning to the beaten curd.

Ingredients:
Karamani……..1 cup
Mustard seeds…1/2tsp
Urad dhal…….1 tsp
Asafoetida…..1/4 tsp
Oil……1tbs
Curry leaves…few
Salt as needed
Red chillies or green chillies…..2
Coconut optional…..4 or 5 tbs
Coriander leaves optional finely chopped…1/2 tsp
Method.
Dry roast the beans for few minutes and soak it for few hours.
Pressure cook it till it gets cooked.
In a kadai put oil in it.
Add mustard seeds when it splutters add urad dhal now add green or red chillies.
Add curry leaves.
Add cooked beans and salt mix well.
If going to add coconut you can add now .
Same with coriander leaves too
If for neivedyam add coconut scrapings if taking for weight loss diet can skip that.
Soak urad dhal in water for one hour.Wash and drain.
Grind the dhal to a frothy dough.USe as little water as possible with green chillies.
Squeeze excess water from the chopped onions or sometimes it may loosen the dough.
Now add chopped coriander leaves, curry leaves,chopped onions and required amount of salt to the dough.
Heat the oil.
To make vada take one lime size ball of dough flatten it on the palm of the hand or on a piece of plaintain leaf and put a hole in the centre and deep fry.
for a variation can reduce the number of chillies and can add chopped ginger or pepper.
